Talking About Highlands' History
Did you know that elephants once walked down Main Street?? That's just one tiny tale you'll find within the pages of the Highlands-based books by Angela Jenkins.
A seventh-generation Highlander, Angela was inspired by the enchanting and sometimes poignant stories that her mother shared about what life was like on the Plateau a couple of generations ago. The first two books in the Highlands, The Early Years series are largely pictorial and feature truly unique vintage photos of the town's earliest days.
Angela's most recent book, Memories of Highlands' Early Years, goes even deeper with first-hand accounts from eighteen local storytellers with last names like Bryson and Wilson, Crisp and Crowe, as well as Hedden, Calloway, and Edwards.
Join us at Acorns from 2 - 4 pm on August 19th as Angela signs her books and takes us all down memory lane with fond remembrances, funny stories, and touching tales of our beloved Highlands, North Carolina.
