Acorns' annual season of trunk shows highlights the talented creators of fine art, designer jewelry, and home goods.
For 14 years Don and Belinda Carringer have farmed together in nearby Franklin, NC. Purchased on a whim, their farm is tucked into a valley at an elevation of about 3,150 feet. The Cowee Mountains rise to the north, and the land is so rich that they can work it by hand. In no time at all, they started showing up at local farmer's markets. Over the years, they have expanded to include over 45 crops and now mostly sell to restaurants, one farmer's market, and a few festivals. These retired go-getters are now full-time farmers, apiarists, bakers, and jam & jelly makers. While Don does most of the farming, Belinda works daily on jams, jellies, relishes, homemade granola and sourdough bread, and creamed honey, among other things. They take great pride and joy in their farming and are some of the nicest people one could meet. They have made many friends through the markets and restaurants and consider this a wonderful enhancement to their quality of life. Check out some of the Carringer's favorite recipes.
